Some questions and answers about the Persuasive Group and what we do...

What is a vision?

A vision is not a marketing slogan. It is a declaration of your intentions. In fact, every organization has two visions: one that is external and the other which is inherent. Your external vision is your statement of purpose...a declaration of your offering to the world. A powerful external vision tells the world who you are and what you promise. The organization's inherent vision, on the other hand, is formed from the sum of the individuals' desires, skills and goals. The inherent vision is the potential of what this group can offer the world. When the visions are in line; powerful things happen. There is a compelling sense in the organization that comes when people are doing what they feel they were meant to be doing. On the other hand, when the two visions conflict, there is a sense struggle; of being lost; without purpose.

How can I tell if my organization's external and inherent visions are misaligned?
Ask yourself, or better yet your group, these questions: Is something taking productive energy away from your organization? Is there a process within the organization that is no longer working as well as it once did? Are you experiencing a customer (employee) complaint / issue / situation that seems to be recurring on a more frequent basis? Is something being repeatedly discussed in management meetings with no apparent resolution? Is there a topic or issue within your organization that is “undiscussable”? The more times you find the answer to be "yes", the greater the misalignment.

How do you create a new, more effective vision?
While you can easily create a new external vision for the group, it is its alignment with the inherent vision that will dictate its effectiveness. In contrast, a company's inherent vision isn't created; it's discovered. Once discovered, however, conscience choices can be made. Should we realign our external vision to more closely match our inherent one? Should we attempt to change the inherent vision to more cosely match the external?

Can an organization's inherent vision be changed?
Absolutely. Once it is discovered, the question can be asked, "Is this vision taking us where we want to go?" If not, adjustments can be made through adding/removing the different formulating elements.
